The amount of mesh trees being rendered does not change when changing the Max Mesh Trees value
Steps to reproduce :
- create a new project
- create a terrain and a tree
- in the terrain component open the Place Tree option
- add the tree
- select Mass Place Trees
- in the settings panel of the terrain change the max mesh trees value and notice that it does not change the amount of mesh trees being rendered

im guessing there would be a workaround you guys can implement im not a fully fledged unity coder but have dabbled in it many times im sure you could implement a user based version of the same thing quite easily but why should you have to seriously why is there options in unity that do nothing fix ur shit unity before people just start going to udk free version (another avid rust player)

Voted. Getting this in Unity 5 too. Most tree settings don't work:
Tree Distance
Billboard Start
Fade Length
Max Mesh Trees
While the guys at Unity might think that these are redundant now, they are still extremely effective to us when scaling the game down to lower spec PCs.

Would be nice to hear something about this bug, It's been around for a few versions and I really miss being able to change the amount of rendered trees.

One workaround is to set stricter billboard start values.
I got a reply on my bug report which stated "We were able to reproduce this issue. It will be closed as a duplicate, since it is already a known, sadly, non-trivial issue. You can comment and rate it here "
