New Texture import of a 16-bit image file with the format settings set as automatic will import it as a 8-bit image file
Repro Steps:
1. Open a new project
2. Create a Terrain Object
3. Import the attached .png into the project
4. Select the Terrain object
5. Select the Paint Terrain Button
6. Select Raise and Lower Terrain from the drop down menu
7. Select New Brush
8. Select the newly added .png to be added as a new brush.
9. Select the new brush for painting.
10. Mouse over the terrain
Actual Results:
Observe the low quality brush preview.
Expected Results:
The brush preview would be of the expected level of quality.
Reproduces on the following versions:
2018.4.14f1, 2019.2.14f1 (49dd4e9fa428), 2019.3.0f3 (6c9e2bfd6f81), 2020.1.0a14.1541
Unnable to add brushes on 2017.4.35f1, so I am unnable to reproduce the issue there.
Notes:
Tested with .PNG, .JPG, and .TIFF Files
