[HDRP] Hard edge on AO when emission texture is black
Issue raised by a user (#.poupi) on Discord.
When using an emission texture, the ambiant occlusion shows a hard edge where the texture pixels are fully black.
Steps to reproduce:
- Decompress and import the attached "AO Emissive.zip" in a HDRP project.
- Open the "AO Emissive.unity" scene.
- Look at the dark side of the cube (opposite of sunlight).
Actual results:
!image-2025-11-18-11-01-52-821.png|width=551,height=572!
Expected results:
Smooth transition of the AO with the emission.
Reproducible with versions:
6.3.0b5
Not reproducible with versions:
Can’t test with versions:
Tested on (OS):
Windows
Notes:
- I didn't test for regression, it might be here since the beginning and never noticed ?
- Reducing the emission intensity to a very small value (but not 0) will look like the AO is very dim where the emission texture pixels are not fully black:
