Unity crashes in a build when a GameObject has components that belong to the obsolete particle system
Repro steps:
1. Open user attached project
2. Open scene "GameScene"
3. File -> Build and Run
Expected: Build runs normally
Actual: Build crashes after a few seconds
Reproducible with: 2018.2.4f1
Not reproducible with: 2018.1.9f1, 2018.2.0b7, 2018.3.0a9
Notes:
- Couldn't test with previous versions due to some errors being thrown in the project
- Two things necessary for the crash to reproduce:
1. The "GameController" GameObject contains a script component, "BuildPrefabs" that contains a reference (called "Hypnotic Ind 1FX") to a prefab called "HI_fx". This prefab has components that belong to the old, deprecated, particle system.
2. The "GameController" GameObject contains a script component, "Payment". In the Payment class's awake() function, a call is made to a function belonging to the asset store asset called I2 Localization Manager. That function is LocalizationManager.GetTranslation().
- User was able to fix this issue by updating all objects that use the obsolete particle components
