Resolution Note (2022.2.X):
This is by design. The issue is only reproducible when Progressive Updates are enabled. We have recently made this functionality more safe by making rendering and compositing jobs happen in lockstep instead of in parallel. This would prevent from having more potential bugs and crashes. Therefore, this slowdown is expected and this is fully justified by the Progressive Updates feature itself. Workaround is to disable Progressive Updates and rebake.
